Artist Statement

I create art as a way of appreciating the beautiful people, places and things in my life. I often work in more time-consuming mediums such as printmaking and paper cutting. This is because I use my process to reflect on my positive memories of each subject. The act of creating my work is very personally fulfilling and I always share the final product with the people who were involved with making such meaningful memories. I hope that the viewers can appreciate the subjects in my work as much as I do through the consideration of the time and effort, I put in to create my images. At the same time, I invite viewers to take more time to be thankful for the beautiful people, places and things in their own lives. My practice of gratitude through artistic engagement helps me cultivate a positive outlook on life and accomplish my goals.

Yet not all of my art is that serious. Life can get pretty intense sometimes and I try to remind myself of the silly little details throughout my day. So, I make pieces just for my own amusement, to make myself laugh and play around with different ideas. These pieces often tell short stories centered around the themes of nature and nostalgia. I work in a variety of mediums including painting, photography, printmaking, collage and papercuts. I experiment with different techniques and how they blend together. I illustrate inside jokes between my family and friends. I combine different symbols and colors to subvert expectations and create eye-catching work. I have a lot of fun physically making the work and am always amused by the final product.
